Trooper's Report:
On 8-2-24 at approximately 1257 hours, I, Trooper A. Escamilla, was traveling westbound on Interstate 30 and took the Geyer
Springs Exit (133 Exit). While taking the exit, I observed a white Buick bearing Arkansas LPN (324YPZ) throw an unknown item
outside of their window.
I activated my emergency equipment and pulled up next to them to advise the driver to exit his vehicle to pick his trash up. At
this time, I could tell that the vehicle was occupied by two people. The driver of the vehicle, later identified as Demetrius Kelley,
never put the window down and began to travel towards Geyer Springs. At the intersection of the exit and Geyer Springs, the
traffic light was red in which Demetrius ran and began traveling south on Geyer Springs. Once at the intersection of Geyer
Springs and the on ramp to get on to Interstate 30 East, Demetrius began to travel east onto Interstate 30.
Once we got on to Interstate 30 East, Demetrius began to pass a vehicle on the right shoulder and a pursuit ensued. Demetrius
began to travel at speeds in excess of 90 miles per hour. Demetrius then took the Scott Hamilton (134) exit. At the exit,
Demetrius was traveling at speeds in excess of 80 miles per hour. Once we approached the traffic light, Demetrius continued to
travel east. At this time I attempted to do a Tactical Vehicle Intervention (TVI) but was unsuccessful as Demetrius brake
checked me. Demetrius then began traveling slower as we continued traveling east on the access road. I successfully performed a TVI just east of the Intersection which ended with the vehicle being disabled in the southside ditch.
I did a felony takedown on the vehicle and began to give commands to exit the vehicle. Demetrius then opened the driver side
door and began to flee on foot. I observed Demetrius wearing light colored gray pants and a dark colored shirt. Demetrius
began to flee east along the fence line. I provided that information to responding troopers. Due to another occupant being in
the vehicle, I stayed with the vehicle and began to give commands to the passenger. The passenger, later identified as Fatima
Hasan, exited the vehicle and was placed into custody. The vehicle was cleared, but there were no other occupants.
While searching the vehicle, I located a Taurus G3 with a serial number of (ACA456811). The firearm was located on the
floorboard in between the driver and passenger side. I asked Fatima who the driver was and she said she knew him as “D”.
Shortly after, Corporal Love advised that he had located Demetrius and after a short foot pursuit, Demetrius surrendered to
Troopers. I was given possession of Demetrius. I asked Demetrius shortly after why he ran in which he stated “because I’m an
idiot”. Demetrius was asked what he threw out in which he stated that he threw out a cigarette box.
Kelley was charged with Felony Fleeing and Possession of a Firearm by Certain Persons. Hasan is
not a felon, she advised the firearm was not hers and did not flee from the vehicle. Hasan was released from the scene.
Demetrius was transported to PCRDF and charged accordingly.
