Explaining some misunderstandings about the impulse-momentum relationship: Part 1
Life’s been busy since I got my reviewer comments for a paper that literally discusses linear momentum control in two-foot jumps, but figured I will chip in here.
1️⃣Your final velocity determines how high you can get into the air through projectile motion.
2️⃣the impulse momentum relationship tells you about linear motion in any direction, horizontal or vertical
3️⃣You can’t maximize the F*t term by maximizing time because it’s not just the vertical force you apply against the ground, but the net force.
The net force has three components:
force of first leg
force of second leg
force of body weight due to gravity
Therefore, it’s about how much force you can generate which exceeds the pull of gravity that matters. You can’t jump high by pushing gently into the ground.
This is probably half of the original video, but I am happy to jump on the pod to fully explain this @isaiahrivera1 @thpstrength @johnevans_thp
