The Grand Duchesses' Room in Tobolsk: Then and Now
As you know, I visited the Governor's Mansion in Tobolsk in July of 2018, and took a number of photos of the restored rooms inside. As it turned out, the only appropriate angle for "then and now" photos of the grand duchesses' room was the one photo, which I used in this video. I think it demonstrates well the layout and relative size of the room, compared to what it looks like today. The walls, doors, windows and panes, as well as the radiator panel you see in all of the 1917/18 photos, are all original. The last "fade-in" photo I used, of the grand duchesses looking out of a window, is not from Tobolsk, - I just used it to demostrate what they would have looked like looking out of their window, which they did often (according to their own words in letters). I hope you enjoy this short video, and that I've succeeded, at least a little bit, in bringing their memory back to life...
