As Exclusive Economic Zone Of A Country Can Extend For Nearly 370 Kilometres From The Coastline, Each Country In The South China Sea Wants To Claim Major Parts Of The Sea. China And Taiwan Both Claim Nearly Half Of The Sea, While Vietnam, The Philippines, Malaysia And Brunei Each Have Overlapping Claims To Parts Of It.
There Are More Than 250 Small Islands Within The South China Sea, And Several Countries Lay Claim On Each Of These Islands. As South China Sea Is A Major Sea Route, Each Country Wants To Control The Trade Routes, Which Again Is The Reason Of Land Disputes In The Sea.
