Making a spinner ring from a Morgan silver dollar and Canadian large cent was my first goal when I bought my first lathe years ago. I was able to do it then but the learning curve from the lathe made it really frustrating. These days I’ve figured out how to properly use a lathe and it has become an indispensable tool in my shop. If you’ve been on the fence, I’d highly recommend it.
There are a ton to choose from out there but for me, I went with the 7x10 mini metal lathe from harbor freight. They’re relatively inexpensive as far as metal lathes go and the 2 year warranty is a must. About every year to year and a half, it breaks and I replace it and buy the warranty again. That way I always have a nice, new lathe to work with.
