Reverse image search is actually a content-based image retrieval, aka CBIR, query technique.
You need to provide CBIR system with a sample image and the system will use this sample image for information retrieval . With reverse image search there's no need to guess at keywords or terms that may or may not return a correct result! All you need to do is to provide the system with a sample image and it may discover all the content (including manipulated versions and derivative works) on the web that's related to that specific sample image.
Google's "Search by an Image" also uses "Reverse Image Search" technique and allows anyone to search for related images just by providing an image URL or by uploading an image from their computer.
The uploaded image is then analysed by Google and is compared with trillions of images that are already present in Google's database. When the comparison is over, Google will provide you with a list of all matching or similar images that are present (hosted) on various websites on the internet. Sometimes images's meta data is also taken into consideration by Google's search by an image.
In this video I show you all the techniques using which you can perform a reverse image search on Google. This technique may help you in following ways:
Find out name of an image or name of person in a particular image.
Find out if a particular image is real or fake.
If you are a girl, photographer, content creator or some sort of celebrity and regularly upload your clicked pictures on the web (on social sites like on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram etc.), then you can check a list of all those websites which are hosting or using your images without your permission or credit.
