Alfred Newman's 'Street Scene' music was first heard in the movie of that name in 1931. Parts of it popped up in a number of other films over the years and it was eventually seen complete as the Overture to "How to Marry a Millionaire" in 1953, starring Marilyn Monroe, Lauren Bacall and Betty Grable, in which the composer himself conducted a large studio orchestra.

John Wilson also chose it as the first item in his "Hollywood Rhapsody" Prom in 2013. It was preceded by the 'Fanfare' that Newman wrote to introduce 20th Century Fox movies. John Wilson immediately followed the 'Street Scene' Overture with Bronislau Kaper's 'Confetti' from the 1956 comedy "Forever Darling" starring Lucille Ball and James Mason. It should be noted that John Wilson included Alfred Newman's 'Street Scene' in his Chandos CD entitled 'Hollywood Sound Stage' with the Sinfonia of London. (Chandos CHAN 5294).
