The graphic specialists initially thought the mask would allow them to see the actor's facial expressions, but when they saw it, they realized it wasn't the case. Weta Digital came to the rescue, taking over 250 shots of Deadpool's face, and with Ryan Reynolds' help, they managed to capture the expressions. The mask, like the entire costume, was designed with stunts in mind, so the eye area could be detached and replaced with another more convenient for the stunt performers. In the earliest drafts of the script, there was a joke showing that Deadpool's mask was purchased from a store and was actually a Spider-Man mask turned inside out. They dropped the idea since they didn't have the rights to Spider-Man.
