Coho Salmon Fishing in the Pacific North West on the rainy rivers and in the sunshine is a great way to spend the fall month even into November and early December.
NOVEMBER Sure comes quick and while the weather gets colder and wetter, there is often still some great coho fishing ahead for those who are willing to brave the elements. I guess I wasn't done. After a Skunk Monday, a chum and two lost coho Tuesday ... skipped Wednesday. Then woke up at 6am and heard the river calling. Or maybe that was the need to empty my bladder calling? Anyways, figured I was up and the forecast looked amazing.
Packed up slowly and headed to the river. The vehicle was frozen up. Things have slowed down for sure. Lots of colored up fish with lock jaw. A few decent fish still around and putting in the time paid off for a limit. A couple really clean fish and a couple decent ones for mid November.
The smallest one was a doe coho... the skinniest one I've ever seen. Thought it was a trout at first, but nope just a sickly female coho.
BACK TO MY TIP!
I carry a lot of rods... yeah I get looks and comments. But people's comments have changed. People now see the benefits of having options.
Today I carried a Float Rod, two spinning rods and a 6 wt Fly Rod with intermediate sinking line.
I caught fish floating roe, twitching jigs and casting spoons. I tried casting the fly, but they weren't having it today for me.
Options broaden your possibilities, and you'd be surprised how changing methods can spark a few more bites in a bite lull.
If you tangle up one rig, it is no big deal. You just set it aside to untangle at home and keep on fishing.
Once you're into a spot, you can pull out whatever Rod you need to fish the type of water in front of you. It really is worth the little bit of extra gear to carry.
