This is a followup to the "Connecting a Behringer XR18 to Reaper Series" in reply to a viewer question about listening thru an X18.

There is now a new version of this video. This part is re-done and now chapter 3 of a new video where all 3 parts are now condensed, updated, and re-edited into one video (and the background music has been removed as to be less distracting):

The viewer wanted a simple way to quickly listen to something that was just recorded. Perhaps just to hear a quick sample of it.

When I described how to connect Reaper and the XR18 (or MR18) in the previous videos, it was explaining 2 popular ways it would be done. In one way, you would record with the XR18 and then do your mixdown in Reaper. Either take the files, or computer, to a different setup and mixdown thru that setup (whether you used a different USB pre or only 2 channels of the XR18 as your audio interface that ultimately feeds your studio monitors or headphones... ).

Or a 2nd way... Return all the tracks from Reaper (via USB) into individual channels in the XR18. You'd do this, for example, if you were working regularly with a live band (or bands) and wanted to do virtual soundchecks, or in any situation really where you actually wanted to mixdown the recording within the XR18 instead of within Reaper (where you needed the channels returning to the XR18 individually).

The viewer question seemed to bring up a different scenario:

What if someone wanted a version of both? Let's say you were recording multiple tracks with the XR18, and you definitely wanted to mix within the XR18, BUT after tracking a guitar part or whatever, you just wanted a quick listen. You don't want to change any channel settings (particularly if you're using those settings for monitoring, or post fader FX) just for that quick listen. You could, of course, save your recording scene, make any changes you want as you listen to what you just recorded thru any or all of the individual tracks and individual channels of the XR18... But that's an extra few steps (or more). And what if you forget to save before you do that, just to listen to 30 secs of a track just to make sure it was recording OK?

So this answers that question by utilizing the stereo AUX In (Ch 17/18) of the XR18 as your stereo listening channel.

This lets you play your tracks in Reaper, bring up the XR18 'Aux In' channel (fader), and it will then feed Reaper's Left-Right Master output (all the tracks that are playing) thru the XR18 Left and Right outs (and/or monitor outputs if you want).

While this video does have some info that works as standalone info, particularly if you know your way around the XR18 (and/or Reaper) at least somewhat already, it's probably best to watch the main two videos in this series for the context they offer.

I have put all 3 of these videos into a "Connecting A Behringer XR18 to Reaper" playlist to make them easy to find.

Although I'm doing this on a PC, the info should be transferrable to a MAC.
The methods described will also work for an X32 (or M32) with just some minor differences based on the different channel layouts and number of inputs/outputs and drivers.
