In the first decades of the 20th century Bonch-Osmolovsky discovered the Kyzyl-Koba culture.
Early sites are divided into two periods. These are the Older pre-Taurian period (12th - 10th centuries BC) and the Younger pre-Taurian period (9th - mid of the 8th century BC), which is characterized by the beginning of the technology of iron processing and the use of iron objects.
The next historical period - the Taurian period began with a line of fires at settlements in the middle of the 8th century BC, which is associated with nomads.
In the second half of 4th – 3rd centuries BC local tribes lost their authenticity and assimilated in sedentary Scythians. At that time, one of the Scythian tribes was wandering in the steppes north of the foothills, which left a burial with a specific type of handmade pottery. It was also found in the Japallah cemetery in the Crimean Mountains. In general, sites of this type can be considered the basis of the Late Scythian component.
