Prokofiev 'Troika' - "Lieutenant Kijé" - Soundtrack Music excerpt
"Lieutenant Kijé" is a 1934 Soviet comedy which features a score composed by Sergei Prokofiev. A five-movement Suite from the film's music soon became a regular part of the classical repertoire and its most famous movement is the "Troika." It's also known as the 'Sleigh Ride' and is often associated with the Christmas period. Here it is, extracted from the movie itself. I've used one of the ancient complete prints here on YouTube, though they suffer from very poor video and audio quality. Even so, I think it is interesting and useful to hear and see the "Troika" in its original context!
