The United States of America is home to people from all around the world, belonging to different religions, casts, and creeds. The U.S.A consists of 50 states, 16 territories, and a federal district. It has a total population of 313 million presently. The population density varies from State to State, with Wyoming having the lowest.
10. North Carolina
Located in South-East of the United States, North Carolina has a population of 9.8 million people, and it’s ranked 28th by area. Out of its total population, 51 % of are women and 68% are Caucasian. The total number of high school graduates is 84% while only 26% complete their bachelor degrees. It is the largest producer of sweet potatoes in the nation and they are known as the official state vegetable.
9. Michigan
Michigan has a population of over 9.8 million people, just a little more than North Carolina. It’s located in the Great Lakes region of the Midwestern United States. Like North Carolina, it too has a population with over 50% women.
8. Georgia
Bordering North Carolina, Georgia has a population of 9.9 million. The Coca Cola soft drink, which is widely popular all around the world, was first invented here by Dr. John S. Pemberton in May 1886. It was initially sold at Jacob’s Pharmacy, Atlanta at a soda fountain, by Willis Venable.
7. Ohio
Ohio is also located in the Midwestern region of the United States, and it’s population consists of 11.5 million people. It has a slightly higher percentage of people obtaining bachelor degrees compared to other states.
6. Pennsylvania
Pennsylvania is located in the Northeastern and Mid-Atlantic regions of the United States and the Great Lakes region. It has a population of 12.7 million. The population of Pennsylvania is a slightly more religious than the average state. About 54% of the population is identified as religious, compared to the national average which is 49%. Out of the 54%, about 28% are members of the Catholic Church, making it the largest single denomination in the state of Pennsylvania. Philadelphia was also once United States capital city.
5. Illinois
Located in the south of Chicago in the Midwestern United States, Illinois has a population of 12.8 million. Caucasians make up the majority of the population; out of 78% of white people, 62% are Caucasians. Illinois boasts the highest number of personalized license plates, more than any other state.
In Illinois the second most spoken language is Spanish, coming in at 14.9% of the population.

Florida is located in the south eastern region of the United States, bordered by the Gulf of Mexico. It has a population of 19.3 million and therefore stands as the 4th most populated state in US in 2014. Miami Heat, the basketball team of Florida, is a member of the Southeast Division in the Eastern Conference of the National Basketball Association. It is also one of the highest rated basketball team in NBA. Florida is home to the longest river sailboat race in the world, the Annual Mug Race.
Florida has one of the highest Spanish speaking population in the country, with 19.5% of the population speaking it.
3. New York
New York city comes in as the 3rd most populated state in the United States, with a population of over 19 million people. The majority of them live in New York City, which has a population of over 8.4 million people, making it the most populated city in America and one of the most populated cities in the world.
This state has a strong history, it being the first place most immigrants got off the boat when arriving into America, and also because during the Revolutionary War, about one third of the battles took place in New York.
2. Texas
Bordered by New Mexico, Texas has a population of 26 million. It is home to the Dell and Compaq companies. These companies manufacture world class computers which are sold all around the world. It is the second most populated state in US in 2014.
Even though its capital city is Austin, the most populated one is Houston. This is where most space flights took off from.
Since it’s so close to the Mexican border, it’s no surprise to find out that over 29% of its population speaks Spanish.
1. California
The most populated state of the United States, California tops the list of the top 10 most populated states in US in 2014 having a population of 38 million. Between 2000 and 2009, the state gained 0.3 million people due to migration. We know that 57% of population is white while 40.1% are non-Hispanic white.
The most popular place in California is by far Hollywood, as everybody knows that’s where all the movies are made.
