As automated vehicles (AVs) are increasingly deployed, they are expected to introduce a paradigm shift in transport. In cities, the transition from the current state of interactions between users – where human-to-human interactions prevail – to situations where humans will interact with more or less automated vehicles will likely impact how other public space users interact with road vehicles.
