Enhancing freight transport connectivity with Ruth Banomyong
Logistics expert Ruth Banomyong (Thammasat University) explores the essential role that freight transport connectivity plays in enhancing economic growth, improving productivity, and furthering supply chain efficiency.
His ITF paper presents a methodological framework focused on identifying freight transport connectivity gaps and addressing them using both infrastructure development (or “hard” policy measures) and regulatory harmonisation (or “soft” policy measures). The methodological framework is then applied to offer recommendations for strengthening regional connectivity in Central Asia and Southeast Asia, two regions that are crucial hubs for international trade.
The insights from this paper can help policymakers locate key bottlenecks in their freight transport network, design policy solutions to alleviate them, and measure performance through quantitative indicators.
