Blender 3.3.0 Alpha - Cycles

If my students at the Mediadesign University of Applied Sciences want to play with a scanned model and high-quality texture to understand how to render a photoreal human they just have to take a look at 3dScanStore.com.

I downloaded the free files and played with the OBJ models and JPG textures for one hour using a classic two-area lights setup. The result is decent and Blender 3.3.0 Alpha will render this 4K-test in just 1m 13s with 512 samples and denoising on my Schenker Technologies GmbH #XMG #NEO15 with a mobile NVIDIA #RTX3080.

Keep in mind that a glossy map for Roughness needs to be inverted. The glossy map for the leather jacket needs to be controlled with a ramp node.

Of course, if you look closely, you can see why realistic people in 3D are an enormous challenge. Even the state-of-the-art scanned data is not 100% sufficient to perfect the illusion. And this is just a static model.

Technical facts:
The rendering of 600 frames in 4K and 512 samples using denoising took 1 hour 38 minutes with 19x RTX 3070Ti. This would be much faster if we hadn't a bottleneck by Wifi-6 (which isn't fixed yet).

The compositing took 9 minutes 46 seconds using OpenEXR (DWAB) files.
