Inspired by the Ebro and Duero basins (N Spain) (see reference).
Top-left:
Top view of topography and fluvial network. Initial topography is bisymmetrical E-W and N-S. It consists of two plateaus nearly flat with a shallow lake in each plateau.
The only E-W assymmetry in the initial conditions is the width of the hard-rock barrier separating the basin from the sea.
Time spans from -10 milion years ago until 5 milion years in the future.
A sea level drop of 1500 m is gradually applied from 6 to 5.3 Ma.
Top-right:
Sediment thickness (shade) and isostatic subsidence (contours) or rebound (dashed contours).
Down-Left:
Distribution of erosion/sedimentation rate.
The 4 values refer to the average values in the west ocean, the west basin, the east basin, and the East ocean.
Down-right:
Cross-section along the dashed red line located in the top panels.
Dark brown is badrock; orange-to-yellow is sediment for different ages. Sediment is 10 times more erodible than bedrock.
