Mirage F1s Shoot Down F-14 Tomcats (Iran-Iraq War)
The war between Iran and Iraq started in 1980 and initially, Iraqi Air Force suffered greatly the the most modern and potent fighter in Iranian arsenal - F-14 Tomcat. Their MiG-21s and MiG-23s had no answer for Tomcat's radar and missiles. In 1981, the French started to deliver their Mirage F1s to the Iraqis. This third generation fighter wasn't on par with the F-14, but was an improvement nevertheless. And with some creative tactics, it could be used effectively against it.
