When working on large code projects, it's important that you and your team follow a predefined code style that will ensure you increase the productivity of you and your team.
At first you might not think that formatting your code is important. With smaller projects you will often find that the code style used is less formal. But as you become a more advanced programmer, you will start to appreciate well formatted code that's easy to understand.
Code formatting is one of those subjects that often gets heavily debated among coders. Some coders like PSR-1 or PSR-2 Code style, others might want the code formatted like WordPress recommends. Each language will often have a different set of coding recommendations.
Ultimately, the point is to identify a style of coding that works for you and stick with it. It's about being consistent with your code.
