How To Turn Well Pump Water On In A Winterized House

Turning the water back on is a very simple process. If you are served by municipal water, it's as simple as turning the valve back on. If you have a well pump, it's very slightly more involved. MAKE SURE you open all valves for the system BEFORE turning the well pump back on!
Also ensure that the water heater is turned OFF during this process, you never want to heat an empty water heater as it will be irreparably damaged. The water heater can be turned back on or fired back up once the water is flowing smoothly. The water heater had also been emptied for the winter so it is imperative it is filled to the top before it is turned back on.
1. The main circuit breaker for this house was shut off for the winter. Simply turn that back on, and provided you have power, you may proceed with the next step.
2. Ensure that the water feed valve(s) to the house are turned back on. Also ensure at least 1 faucet is turned on, both hot and cold taps. The aerators in all faucets should have been removed during the winterization process. If they are installed, uninstall them, otherwise you will have to do it later and also clean them, which could be a painstaking process.
3. Switch on the well pump using its circuit breaker. Water should start flowing in short order.
4. Allow water to flow for several minutes (this took approximately 10 minutes in this house) until no more air is being expelled and only water is coming out. Ensure you use EVERY faucet, including outside ones. Don't forget ice makers in freezers and especially the dishwasher--you MUST run a cycle on the dishwasher to get rid of the antifreeze put in.
5. Turn off all faucets, install aerators, and start the water heater.
All in all a simple process.
