Dear Delphi Jury, WTF?? Do juries understand the concept of Reasonable Doubt?
Now that a guilty verdict has been returned in the trial of Indiana v Richard Allen, many of us have lost faith in the process and are asking, what is the point of a jury trial? Did this happen because the Judge stopped the defense from presenting so much exculpatory evidence? Or is there a bigger problem here?
The concept of proving guilt beyond a reasonable doubt is debated, misunderstood, explained differently in different courts by different practitioners and the gravity of this decision may be lost on today's jurors. Bring your thoughts to this stream. If you believe the jury made the right decision, please let us know how you were convinced beyond a reasonable doubt of Mr Allen's guilt.
