Vodka
Vodka is a highly rectified spirit prepared from grains, potatoes, beetroot,grapes or molasses however vodka made from rye and wheat make the best classical spirit.
It is a spirit without any distinctive character, aroma,taste and colour.
Vodkas are filtered through activated charcoal or fine quartz sand to make it completely pure.
The name of vodka was derived Russian word “voda" which means little water and indeed the product looks like water.
Vodka is a perfect ingredient for making cocktails as it is colourless and flavourless.
Bloody Mary and screwdriver are the popular vodka based cocktails.
History of Vodka
The origin of vodka can be tracked back to the twelfth century Russia and Poland, however There was still a confusion about the origin.
Today, vodka us the national drink of russia and Poland.
In poland, the king jan olbrecht in 1546 gave the right to make vodka to all citizens.

How It’s made?
Although potatoes and other vegetables have been used to make vodka at various times in its history, nowadays it is made virtually exclusively from grains, especially wheat and rye.
A basic mash is made by malting the grains and encouraging them to ferment with cultured yeasts.
The resulting brew is then continuously distilled in a column still which also called as paten still to increase the alcohol strength.
As a final Insurance against flavour , the spirit is filtered through a layer of charcoal, which strips it of any remaining character.
It is then bottled at an average of 35 to 40% alcohol by volume.

Neutral Vodka
Neutral vodka is distilled from grains or potato and highly rectified.
It is filtered through activated charcoal which is a powder or granular form of carbon is used to purify the spirit.This results of getting a neutral spirit.
Gold vodka
Gold vodka is bit non popular in market however the taste is quiet smoother than the classic vodka.
It is cask matured to get gold colour.
Vodka is matured in the wooden cask to derive golden colour from the wood.
Flavoured Vodka
In flavoured vodkas, the aromatized elements like various spices, herbs and fruits are added to the new spirit after rectification and left to infuse over long periods, sometimes three years or more.

Kubanskaya is flavoured with infusion of dried lemon peels and orange peels.
Limonaya
Limonaya is a lemon flavoured vodka with a touch of sugar.
Okhotnichya

It is flavoured with mix of ginger root,cloves,lemon peels,coffee bean,aniseed and juniper berries.
Pertsovka
Pertsovka is flavoured with black pepper corns and red chilli pepper.
Starka
Starka is infused with dried fruits,brandy,port and malaga wine due to aged in oak cask.
Zubrovka
Zubrovka is flavoured with buffalo grass. It is bitter and every bottles comes along with a single bison grass inside.
Wisniowka
Wisniowka is a vodka flavoured with cherries.
Apart from above now the market has currant, orange,chilli flavoured vodka also.
