1998 Jeep Cherokee/Sport Classic Limited Line Up
The Jeep Cherokee is a line of SUVs made by Jeep, originally marketed as an option to the Jeep Wagoneer. The Jeep Cherokee "crashed" into the scene at the 1992 North American Auto Show in Detroit, when Chrysler president Robert Lutz drove one through a plate of glass to show off its durability. By 1998 the Jeep Cherokee was an inexpensive and rugged vehicle with dual airbags, a 4.0 six-cylinder engine, and two or four-wheel drive. The Jeep Cherokee sport model offered two or four doors, while the step-up Classic and Limited editions offered only four-doors. Command-Trac part-time four-wheel drive allowed shift-on-the-fly operation. Selec-Trac was Jeep's full-time four-wheel drive system. Standard gear included power steering, tinted glass and power front disc brakes. As a rough and tumble SUV and adept at road driving, the Jeep Cherokee also strutted its stuff off-road. According to reviews on Edmunds.com, if you were looking for an all-terrain vehicle in 1998, the Jeep Cherokee was the first car to test drive.
