The first Pontiac Bonneville was released in 1957 as a luxury performance car. It was based on the Pontiac Star Chief, and was named after the Bonneville Salt Flats in Utah, a home of land speed records. By 2002, the Pontiac Bonneville's 10th generation was available in three trim levels: SE, SLE, and SSEi. The SE was the base trim level, and it came standard with a 3.8-liter V6 engine that produced 205 horsepower. The SLE was the mid-level trim, and it came standard with a 3.8-liter V6 engine that produced 240 horsepower. The SSEi was the top-of-the-line trim, and it came standard with a supercharged 3.8-liter V6 engine that produced 275 horsepower. The 2002 Pontiac Bonneville was available with a variety of features including a sunroof, leather seats, heated seats, a Bose sound system, a navigation system, and safety features including anti-lock brakes, traction control, and side airbags. With all of its pluses, some reviews stated that the 2002 Bonneville was not as sporty or as fuel efficient as its competitors, and expensive to maintain.
