Powerful earthquake strikes western Japan, officials warn "higher chance" of another
The Japan Meteorological Agency believes there is now a "relatively higher chance" of another major earthquake occurring near western Japan's Pacific coast after a 7.1 magnitude quake struck the country earlier on Thursday.
Japan's Chief Cabinet Secretary Yoshimasa Hayashi said that residents in the region should be on alert for evacuation orders from local authorities.
The earthquake that hit southwestern Japan triggered tsunami advisories, the JMA said, but there were no immediate signs of major damage.
