The graph of a quadratic equation is U-shaped curve called a parabola.
When the leading coefficient is greater than zero, the parabola opens upward.
When it is less than zero, the parabola opens downward.
The vertical line that divides the parabola into two equal halves and passes through its center is called the axis of symmetry.
The turning point of a parabola is known as the vertex. The vertex always lies on the axis of symmetry.
If the parabola opens upward, the vertex is its minimum point.
If it opens downward, the vertex is its maximum point.
The point where the parabola intersects the Y-axis is called the Y-intercept. It occurs when X equals zero.
The points where the parabola intersects the x-axis are its X-intercepts or roots. They occur when Y equals zero.
