Why we skipped SRE and switched to platform engineering | PlatformCon 2023
We work in an IoT organization in the Home Appliance industry, and scaled from ten to 200 developers with five Ops engineers within three years. Today our developers can push code from day one with minimum knowledge of infrastructure. In this talk we are going to tell you how we built our Internal Developer Platform (IDP) with integration to our Cloud and different toolchains, and how we embed SRE principles into this IDP.
We realized the difficulties of promoting SRE principles to developer teams, and switched from SRE to platform engineering. With our own IDP, we achieved the following benefits:
Reduced complexity
Faster delivery time
Better security and governance
Embedded SRE within IDP
