Backstage is not your platform
Want to build a platform? Why not just add Backstage or any other portal on top of your setup and call it a day? The reality is portals are (useful) interfaces to your platform. They are NOT your platform. In this talk, Kaspar discussed how portals like Backstage are complemented by platform backends (Platform Orchestrators) to ship an Internal Developer Platform that’s ready for primetime.
When building your Internal Developer Platform (IDP), it’s crucial you start with the backend and later go up to higher layers like portals. The backend is where your core logic resides and what makes your platform engineering initiative truly enterprise-level.
