Protection of a river using an activated carbon barrier in North Italy
This video explains the remediation of TCE in groundwater at a former factory. A 2-phased in situ remediation approach has been applied, starting with enhanced reductive dechlorination using a range of REGENESIS electron donor substrates (3DMe and HRCs). This was followed by a second phase of treatment consisting of in situ sorption & biodegradation treatment using PlumeStop colloidal activated carbon injections in a barrier formation along the site boundary to protect the adjacent sensitive receptor. This in situ treatment barrier has replaced an existing costly pump and treat system. The project has received formal regulatory site closure in March 2022.
