How to use comamnd prompt to check for a virus?
Hi my name is Roger Ahuja and I'm going to take a moment and show you how to check your computer to see if it's infected or not using a command prompt. So first thing you want to do is close all programs. Anything that you might have open so you should have nothing running. If you're running Windows 8 8.1 or 10 you can right click on the start right here and go to command prompt admin. If you're running Windows 7 you're going to have to go to the command prompt right click on it and Run as administrator. Okay so once we have the command prompt up, we're just going to type in NETSTAT /NBF. And what this is going to show us is it's gong to show us any application that's talking to any other application across the network. Now when you see this ::1 that's an internal address. That's your computer talking to itself. When you see a 127 address, that's also your computer talking to itself. As you can see I've got these other addresses here this 108.160 and so forth. That is an external IP address on the internet. So Dropbox and this tells me what program is using and talking to that. So I've got Dropbox installed a program that's running the background. So you can see on a clean machine you're not going to have a whole lot of stuff to see here. Now I'm going to show you a machine that's infected. So this machine has some garbage loaded on it and we did it intentionally so we could show you this. But here it doesn't even tell me what program. Actually this is all this program talking to these addresses and same program here talking to all these addresses. And you've got another one here talking to these addresses. Obviously there's things running here that shouldn't be. If you don't recognize what this is, you can do a google search to find out. Please don't download anything while you're doing a google search to find out what it is. But this will tell you if your system has problems and that's it.
