How to use the SUM, SUMIF and SUMIFS functions in Excel 2013?
Hi my name is Roger Ahuja and I'm going to take a couple of minutes and go over the sum the SUMIF and the SUMIFS function. Okay so what the sum function does is let you total up a column or a row. And what I'm going to do is show you with a mouse first. I just hit auto sum and then I can just highlight what I want to create a total of and hit enter and it will give me a total of all of those. Now if you wanted to type out the function, it shows it up here equal sum F2 to F11 which is basically F and then 2 across to F11 across. That's the basic sum function. Okay so now we're going to look at the SUMIF function. So the SUMIF function is equal SUMIF and then first we have to pick the range that's going to be our criteria so we're going to take A2 to A11 and then our criteria is going to be anything that equals Dog and you gotta put that criteria in quotes. And then the range that we're actually going to total up is from F2 to F11. So what this is going to do is it's only going to add the one's that are Dog in F2. So if we look, the total is $1,200 and it's 1,2,3,4,5,6 Dogs because all the dogs are $200. That's $1,200. You can also do multiple criteria. So if you wanted to do multiple criteria, you do SUMIFS function. So under SUMIFS, now it changes a little bit here in the last one we did the criteria range first, this one we actually do the sum range first. So we're going to do F2 to F11 that's the range that we're totaling and then for the criteria, let's say we're going to take all the cats that are over 30 pounds or rather under 30 pounds. So we'll say A2 to A11 and then the criteria equals Cat. and then we'll do B2 to B11 and we're going to do less than 30 pounds. So that gives us there's 1, 2 and 3 Cats that are under 30 pounds and they're a $100 each so that gives us a total of $300 and that's it.
