Sea conch. Communication with sound signals.
In this video you can see how to prepare a sea conch to turn it into an ancient instrument and be able to reproduce its sound.
This instrument has been used since prehistoric times for various purposes. In medieval times, like the horn, it was used to communicate by means of sound signals from elevated positions called "Cornellàs". Many current toponymy in Catalonia retain this name (Cornellà del Vallés, Cornellà del Terri, Cornellà del Prat...).
At the beginning of the 20th century, it was still used by shepherds to gather their flocks in the Pyrenees. You will also be able to hear the sound it produced in these Pyrenean places. I hope you like it.
