If you're looking to change the server name of your Synology DiskStation then you'll be happy to know it's really quite easy. To get started login to the web interface of your Synology DiskStation, either by entering your hostname or ip address followed by COLON and then 5000, and then visit the control panel.
Click on 'Network' and then from the 'General' tab you'll see a text field called 'Server Name' that you can use to adjust the name of your DiskStation.
Enter a different server name into this box and click the 'Apply' button at the bottom once happy.
In order to make these changes take effect you'll probably need to restart your Synology NAS and you can do this by clicking the icon at the top right and then click the 'Restart' button. Click 'Yes' you're sure and wait for the DiskStation to restart.
Now if you're using the old name of the DiskStation in your browser you'll probably have to adjust this to the new name once restarted to visit the DiskStation web interface again.
And there you have it, your Synology DiskStation now has a new name. You can verify this by visiting the web interface using the new name, use this in Windows Explorer and also ping the new hostname using a command prompt or terminal.
