Getting CodeLite set up (and configured correctly) on Kubuntu can be a little tricky if you plan to use the clang compiler (and debugger). The problem is Konsole - for some reason it just doesn't want to play nice with CodeLite. This becomes apparent when you create a brand new console application and then try to run it (it compiles, but it just doesn't execute).

Also, the on Kubuntu 16.04, the version of CodeLite available from the repo is 9.1 - which is ancient. Just download the latest version from the CodeLite site (and donate a couple of bucks if you can afford it - it's an awesome open source project that's worth supporting, and the developer if very active and helpful in the forums).

In short, this is what I do to get CodeLite running on Kubuntu:

1. Install the gnome-terminal (and set it to default).
2. Install clang, clang debugger (lldb), and clang formatter.
3. Download and install latest version from CodeLite website.
4. Set the "Enable clang code completion" option.
5. Set the C++14 compiler option (or later, like C++17, if it's available).

I also like to theme CodeLite to something that matches my desktop (something dark). Unfortunately, there doesn't be a way to theme everything in CodeLite, so some of the panels still remain "light themed". This doesn't bother me too much, as most of the time I make the editor take up the entire application (CTRL + M).
