Shericka Jackson Won Women's 200m in Diamond League - Zurich l 2nd Daryll Neita l 3rd Kayla White
Shericka Jackson, fresh off of her second consecutive 200m World Title, easily held off the field in 21.82 seconds for the win in Zurich's 200m.
Two-time World 200meter champion Shericka Jackson backed up her recent win at the 2023 World Athletics Championships in Budapest Hungary, with a decisive victory in the event Thursday (31 August) at the Diamond League Zürich 2023.
Jackson was in complete control of the race, leading almost immediately as she clocked 21.82. Her winning time was just over four-hundredths of a second slower than her world lead run she used to claim the World title less than a week ago.
"This full house is wonderful, I enjoyed the atmosphere a lot. I wanted to come out here and perform," Jackson said following the race.
The 29-year-old Jamaican has been dominant in the sprint event since Tokyo 2020, where she failed to make it out of the heats.
Jackson owns five Olympic medals, including gold as a member of the 4x100m relay team.
Her busy season is not over, as she says. she has two more races left including a finale in Eugene.
"To be honest, the season has not finished yet, so my focus is not yet on the Olympic Games, but on this 2023 season," explained Jackson.
"I just want to finish this season well."
Great Britain's Daryll Neita was second at 22.25.
"Everyone is very tired but it was great to run with these ladies today. It was so much fun," said Neita, twice an Olympic bronze medal winner, afterward.
"I still want to break decent times even though I am a little tired."
Looking back at the race, Neita claimed, “Today I was mentally trying to get through it more than anything else. So to run a great time in a great field, I’m pretty proud of myself.”
And USA’s Kayla White secured the third spot with a run time of 22.33 seconds.
Jackson broke her record last week and has been edging closer to Flo-Jo's world record set at the 1988 Olympic Games. The 29-year-old has been on a tear this year, and many feel it is only a matter of time until she breaks the world record.
