The Beatles - Reunion Sessions at Hog Hill Mill (January - May 1995) - All Available Footage
Hi everyone,
Here is a completely updated and revised version of the edit I made of the Beatles' 1995 Real Love / Now and Then sessions. I now have a much better understanding of the sessions as a whole and have added approx. 20 extra seconds of footage, mainly from Paul's recent screen film which plays during his live performances of Now and Then. A huge thanks to cosmonauta who created a wonderful guide of the specific dates that the footage takes place (although after doing some digging, I was able to help correct the dates of the first two sessions.)
Featured in this video is:
1. February 1st Session 0:00 - 1:00 - I believe this is the first session as it seems there is minimal work done on either song, and George is wearing the same shirt as the Feb. 2nd session.
2. February 2nd Session 1:00 - 1:56 - This footage is highly likely footage from the session on February 2nd. In the footage, you can see Paul and George recording their acoustic guitar parts, with Ringo adding additional drum parts (such as tom fills.) Also, in the highly informative Sound and Vision article, they identify a clip of Ringo from this footage as being from the 2nd. According to the Sound and Vision article, this was the "first real band day of work" on Now and Then.
3. March 20th Session 1:56 - 3:26 - This is where the dates get a little more speculative, but I believe this footage is from March 20th, as more work is done on Now and Then. The footage shows Paul playing and singing it on the piano while George accompanies on acoustic with Ringo on brushes. I'm inclined to think this is a rehearsal of sorts rather than the three learning the song for the first time as I'm reasonably confident the Feb 1st footage is labeled correctly. This also seems to be the day when Real Love gets proper work done to it, with Ringo adding several percussive elements and Paul overdubbing bass.
4. March 21st Session 1:56 - 3:26 - 3:32 - I am not totally set on this being from March 21st, but George is wearing the same shirt yet with different pants, and we know there was a session on the 21st.
5. May 15th Session 3:32 - 4:53 - This footage seems to be the May 15th session as it is the next documented session, with lots of work being done for Real Love. The main focus appears to be vocal overdubs, however there is a clip of Paul tuning his acoustic meaning possible more acoustic guitar was overdubbed this day. George also seems to overdub some electric guitar on this day.
6. May 16th Session 4:53 - 5:03 - While we don't have much from this session, it seems that Paul and George overdubbed more acoustic guitars while Paul overdubbed mellotron.
7. Unknown Sessions 5:03 - 5:12 - Neither I nor cosmonauta could determine when these sessions take place, but one seems to be Paul adding vocal to the verses to "double" John and strengthen the vocal quality, while the other clip of Paul in a yellow shirt remains unclear.
This was the best order I could arrange the footage in, but if I got anything wrong please let me know!
