Summoners do the Sending to prevent the souls of dead people from turning into fiends. It was Yuna's first time doing it too hence she couldn't stop her tears -- lots of lives were taken by Sin. For what reason Sin attacked Kilika? No one knows.
Going to Kilika Forest, Tidus receives the news that Yuna wants him to become her guardian. Everyone was surprised by this especially Wakka who poked fun at Tidus being a newbie. Lulu decided to think about it later as they are wasting time when they are already near the temple.
