First, let's take a look at the comparison table. Business cloud storage services offer more features on sharing, collaboration, security and user management. They are optimized for business documents, and business customers with more than 3 users.
To compare service prices, you need to know your needs. Many business customers don’t know their storage needs. Let’s do a quick calculation:
The average business file size is about 200KB. If a user saves 10 such files per work-day, he will save 2500 files/year, so he will use 500MB/year.
To add enough buffer, let’s multiply it by 4. Each user only needs 2GB storage space per year.
But wait, There Is No Storage Price?
Well, Business Cloud Storage pricing is not based on the storage space! It is based on the number of users & the service plan type.
Why?
Because many customers don’t know their storage needs and assume they need huge amount of storage, thus the user-based pricing model can give customers a false impression of low storage cost and is easier to sell.
Let's compare storage-based pricing and user-based pricing. If a company needs 1TB and 100 users.
With storage-based pricing, 1TB business cloud storage costs about $50/month.
As previously calculated, 1 business user will use 2GB/year. If each user gets 10GB, then 1TB is enough for 100 users.
With user-based pricing, at $5-40/user/month, it costs $500 to $4000/month. In this case, the user-based pricing is 10 to 80 times more expensive than the storage-based pricing!
Now let's find the prices of a few leading service providers.
First, Dropbox. For businesses or teams, Dropbox offers Standard, Advanced and Enterprise plans. The yearly price is $150 and $240 per user for standard and Advanced Plans. The price for enterprise plans is not published, but obviously seems to be more expensive.
Next, Box.com. It has 4 plan types. The prices for Business, Business Plus and Enterprise plans are $180, $300 and $420 per user per year. The price for Enterprise Plus plans is not published, but obviously seems to be more expensive.
Next, Egnyte. It has 3 plan types: Business, Enterprise Lite and Enterprise. Egnyte only published the price for its Business Plans, which is $240/user/year. Enterprise Lite and Enterprise Plans obviously seem to be more expensive.
Next, Microsoft 365. It has many plan types and is quite complicated. It mainly has the following plan types: Business Basic, Standard, Premium, and Enterprise E3 and E5. The prices for Business Basic, Standard and Premium are $72, $150, $264 per user per year. The prices for Enterprise E3 and E5 are $432 and $684.
Now Google Workspace. It has 4 plan types. The prices for Business Starter, Standard and Plus are $72, $144, $216 per user per year. The price for Enterprise plans is not published, but obviously seems to be more expensive.
Finally, DriveHQ. It has 4 plan types. The price for Business Basic plans is $48 to $60 per user per year. For Business Plus and Enterprise plans, the prices are $120 and $180 per user per year. DriveHQ's custom plans are unique. We will talk about it a little later.
