Week of April 17, 2023:
1. New NIAID research finds a majority of parents of children diagnosed with Lyme disease reported that their kids recovered within six months of completing antibiotic treatment. The study also found that a notably small percentage of children took longer than six months to recover and experienced a significant impact on their daily functioning. https://bit.ly/41RBNiT
2. The Department of Veterans Affairs and NIH have launched a study to gain a better understanding, identify biomarkers, and potential treatments of the chronic symptoms of Gulf War Illness. Symptoms of the disease impact multiple systems of the body and affects about a third of the nearly 700,000 men and women who served in the Persian Gulf during operations Desert Shield and Desert Storm. https://bit.ly/3L1UNUS
3. Researchers have identified a strong association between prevalence of prescription stimulant therapy for attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) and rates of prescription stimulant misuse by middle and high school students.
