Ori and the Will of the Wisp's soundtrack has been one of my favourites in recent years, with the main theme being a track I'm really fond of.
When I first learned about pitch bending on the vibraphone, I knew I had to incorporate it in some way into this arrangement - I've had the fully fleshed out arrangement for a while now, and I'm glad I was finally able to put it together!
Given the vibraphone's three-octave range, I was initially a bit hesitant about being able to have multiple layers playing simultaneously without voices clashing and cluttering the texture. To circumvent this, I went for different kinds of atmospheric and resonant textures - bowed vibraphone in the low end and the sustained ostinato with soft mallets. This allowed me to play the melody on top with much harder mallets, and gave me the contrast I was looking for. I'm pretty pleased with how it turned out! Additionally, since it's May and that time of year again, this track is my entry to the Soundole Chill Out 2023 competition.
