The snatch is one of two dynamic Olympic lifts used by weightlifting competitors and athletes alike to develop total-body power. In this variation, the power snatch from the floor, you will begin with the bar on the floor with a wide grip and feet between hip- and shoulder-width apart. With the hips down and spine neutral, lift the bar from the floor by extending the hips for the first pull. As the bar rises above the knees, begin the second pull by sliding the bar up the thighs and rapidly extending at the hips, knees, and ankles. As you reach full extension, shrug at the shoulders, allow the elbows to flex and pull the body under the bar with the arms extended up. For a power snatch, there should be minimal knee bend to approximately a quarter squat.
