Fentanyl is a drug 50 times more potent than heroin and 100 times more potent than morphine. There are two types of fentanyl, pharmaceutical fentanyl and illegally manufactured fentanyl. Pharmaceutical fentanyl is prescribed by doctors to treat severe pain, especially after surgery and in cases of advanced cancer. However, most of the recent fentanyl-related overdose cases are linked to illegally manufactured fentanyl. It is often mixed with heroin, cocaine and methamphetamine, which is very dangerous because many people may not be aware that their drugs are laced with fentanyl. So the increase in overdose deaths driven by illegal fentanyl has become a serious public health problem in the United States. For example, in 2022, illegal fentanyl poisoning became the leading cause of death for Americans between the ages of 18 and 45. According to the DEA administrator. "Fentanyl is the most lethal drug threat our nation has ever faced." So, some U.S. politicians have put forward the idea that China is sending without restriction to Mexican drug cartels, some of the chemicals needed to process and manufacture fentanyl, which they then smuggle into the United States and that this is done by China to weaken the U.S. country, just as the West did against China with opium in the mid-19th century. So the question is: is China using fentanyl to weaken the United States?
