A common mistake I see beginner night sky and astrophotographers make is thinking they can just set their lens to "infinity" focus to focus on the stars in the dark. This will usually result in blurry images.
Every lens is made with the ability to expand or contract in hot or cold conditions. Because of this, in most fair-weather conditions (when most people are shooting astrophotography), your lens's infinity focus will be PAST the point of focus.
Avoid this mistake, and of course, always review your images and zoom in to check for sharp stars the next time you photograph the night sky!
