Just who is sociology for? In the wake of a pandemic, political and economic crises and the climate emergency, the issue of who sociology speaks to and serves is ever more urgent. In this opening plenary, our Chief Executive Michaela Benson was joined by members of the Undisciplining II organising committee and Sociological Review editors and project leads to discuss the hopes and ambitions behind the conference, the importance of public sociology today, and our renewed commitment to encouraging conversations and interventions across disciplinary boundaries, with diverse publics, and within and beyond the academy.

Professor Bev Skeggs is Editor at Large of the Sociological Review Foundation, former Chief Executive Officer of the Foundation, and former Editor of The Sociological Review journal
Dr Carin Runciman is Editor of The Sociological Review journal and Senior Lecturer in Sociology at the University of Edinburgh
Professor Tannistha Samanta is Associate Professor in the Department of Sociology, FLAME University, India
Dr Charlie Rumsby is Sociological Review Fellow 2023-24
Dr Ash Watson is Fiction Editor for The Sociological Review and Scientia Senior Lecturer at the University of New South Wales Sydney, Australia
