Just who is sociology for? In the wake of a pandemic, political and economic crises and the climate emergency, the issue of who sociology speaks to and serves is ever more urgent. In this opening plenary, our Chief Executive Michaela Benson was joined by members of the Undisciplining II organising committee and Sociological Review editors and project leads to discuss the hopes and ambitions behind the conference, the importance of public sociology today, and our renewed commitment to encouraging conversations and interventions across disciplinary boundaries, with diverse publics, and within and beyond the academy.
