Undisciplining II conference session with Professor Michaela Benson, Dr Maud Perrier, Tom Genillard and Ruth Shaw.
From the conference programme description:
Have you ever thought about how your research might fit into new A-level sociology specifications? How do exam boards and teachers want to work with sociologists? How should A-level exam boards decolonise their curriculum? What opportunities are there for sociologists to collaborate with teachers and schools, exam boards and policy influencers? How can teachers deliver critical thinking and analysis skills to their students in a sensitive and realistic way?
Find out how the UK awarding body OCR are aiming to refresh their specifications to ensure a fully accessible assessment model and develop an inclusive curriculum that begins to decolonise past assumptions. This hybrid discussion, open to teachers of sociology around the country as well as academics interested in finding out more about working with teachers and exam boards, will explore the opportunities and challenges of getting current sociological research into schools.
Professor Michaela Benson is Chief Executive Officer of the Sociological Review Foundation and Professor in Public Sociology, Lancaster University
Dr Maud Perrier is Senior Lecturer in the School of Sociology, Politics and International Studies at the University of Bristol
Tom Genillard is Sociology Subject Advisor for Sociology and Criminology, OCR
Ruth Shaw is Head of Division Humanities, Professional Services/Access to HE and EDI in the Curriculum Coordinator, Nelson and Colne College Group
