How to screenshot on Windows
There are several ways to take screenshots on Windows. Here are the most common methods:
1. Use the Print Screen (PrtScn) Key
Entire Screen: Press PrtScn to capture the entire screen. The image will be copied to your clipboard, and you can paste it (using Ctrl + V) into a program like Paint or Word.
Active Window Only: Press Alt + PrtScn to capture only the active window. This also copies the image to your clipboard.
2. Windows + Shift + S for Snip & Sketch
Press Windows + Shift + S to open the Snip & Sketch tool.
You’ll see options for Rectangular Snip, Freeform Snip, Window Snip, and Full-Screen Snip.
The screenshot is copied to your clipboard and also appears as a notification. You can click the notification to annotate or save the screenshot.
3. Windows Key + PrtScn for Auto-Saving
Press Windows Key + PrtScn to take a screenshot of the entire screen.
This automatically saves the screenshot to the Screenshots folder in your Pictures directory.
4. Using the Snipping Tool
Search for Snipping Tool in the Start menu.
Choose from several modes: Free-form Snip, Rectangular Snip, Window Snip, or Full-Screen Snip.
After capturing, you can annotate, save, or copy the screenshot.
5. Game Bar (Windows + G) for Screenshots in Games
Press Windows + G to open the Game Bar (works in games or apps).
Click the camera icon or press Windows + Alt + PrtScn to capture a screenshot.
The screenshot is saved in the Captures folder in your Videos directory.
