Mayor Michelle Wu has taken a different approach to Mass and Cass. Is it working?
Last week, the city of Boston told about 120 people living on Atkinson Street in the neighborhood known as Mass. & Cass to remove their tents and vacate the area, while also offering them access to shelter and substance-abuse treatment. That message was followed by the latest in a long line of clearances in the area, which has been the epicenter of Massachusetts’ intertwined addiction, homelessness, and mental-health crises for years now. In the wake of the latest intervention in the neighborhood, Adam Reilly talks with GBH News’ Tori Bedford and former Bay State Banner senior editor Yawu Miller about how Wu’s approach to Mass. & Cass differs from her predecessors’, and whether Wu’s claims of progress in the neighborhood hold up.
