The Docker Commit command is useful for manually creating container images. However, with a Dockerfile and the Docker Build command, images can be created through better automation making container creation consistent and easier to integrate into the development cycle. Dockerfiles are simply text files which contain the instructions for creating a new container image by specifying an image base, commands to be run during the setup process of a container and what commands are to be run when a container image is deployed. In this video, Matt will demonstrate using a Dockerfile with a Windows container. He will cover how to specify a base container image to be used when creating a new image, specify commands to be run and captured into the new container image, copy files to the new container image and specify a command to run when new containers are started from the new image.
