DHCP is responsible for assigning IP addresses to the devices on your network, and as such, is a critical core service. Having a DHCP server go offline can cause a multitude of disruptions on the network as the number of devices that are unable to obtain an IP address increases. Thankfully, there is a feature included with Windows Server called DHCP Failover. Utilizing this feature, you can avoid downtime by creating pairs of DHCP servers, either in a load balancing scenario, or setting one server up as a hot standby. It can be even easier to configure when you use PowerShell, especially if you have multiple pairs of servers you wish to configure.

In this video, David will demonstrate how to setup DHCP Failover on Windows Server 2019, utilizing the DHCP PowerShell module. In this scenario, the load balancing configuration will be demonstrated using Add-DhcpServerv4Failover. Removal of the failover will also be demonstrated using Remove-DhcpServerv4Failover.

Prerequisites include:
Windows Server 2016/2019
Dhcp v4 PowerShell Module
