Back light isn't always as simple as just placing a light behind your subject; the parts of the body the light falls on to can actually be broken down into 4 general terms: Rim Light, Edge Light, Hair Light and Kicker - and each of these can be utilized in cinema, to create, emphasise and carry the feelings of the story being told.
In Part 1, we take a look at Rim Light, the most recognisable form of back light and how it can be used in tandem with a scene's narrative.
